Brevard County Deputy Rescues 10-Year-Old Dog From Canal in Satellite Beach

Incident happened at 5 a.m.

BREVARD COUNTY • SATELLITE BEACH, FLORIDA – A Brevard County Sheriff’s Office deputy rescued a 10-year-old dog after she fell into a canal in Satellite Beach.

Deputies from the agency’s South Precinct responded to the incident at approximately 5 a.m. after the dog’s owner reported that Mae had fallen into the water.

The owner could hear Mae but could not locate her because of the darkness, according to Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey.

Deputy Thomas Jenkinson searched the area and quickly found Mae struggling in the canal behind a dock. Jenkinson pulled the dog from the water and safely reunited her with her owner.

“To say Mae was grateful is an understatement, but based on the smile on her face, we think she was pretty happy,” Ivey said.

Ivey praised Jenkinson for rescuing Mae and said the agency works each day to protect every member of the community, including its four-legged residents.
