Titusville Man Identified as Domestic Violence Suspect Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting Friday Morning

A domestic violence suspect was shot and killed by Titusville police officers during a traffic stop on Friday morning near the intersection of South Washington Avenue and Country Club Drive.

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Karl Christopher Gibson, 45, of Titusville, has been identified as the domestic violence suspect who was shot and killed by Titusville police officers during a traffic stop on Friday morning near the intersection of South Washington Avenue and Country Club Drive.

According to a Titusville police spokesperson, at 6:50 a.m. on Friday, officers responded to a 9-1-1 call from a woman who was involved in an in-progress incident between herself and her estranged husband, whom a judge had issued no contact order against.

“The preliminary investigation revealed an adult male was threatening and aggressively pursuing the woman as they traveled in their vehicles southbound on South Washington Avenue,” said a Titusville police spokesperson.

“Officers attempted a traffic stop. However, the male suspect’s vehicle fled from police, heading southbound on South Hopkins Avenue.

Officers pursued Gibson’s vehicle, and stopsticks were deployed. The suspect continued to drive to a home on Meadow Lark Drive. A Titusville police spokesperson said Gibson exited the vehicle displaying a weapon, forcing the officers to discharge their firearms.”

Gibson was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced deceased at 8:08 a.m.

There were no other injuries.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the officer-involved shooting incident, and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is facilitating the crime scene investigation.
