Bicyclist was struck from behind by a silver Chevrolet Camaro
BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – The Titusville Police Department credits Flock Safety technology and community tips for helping detectives quickly identify and arrest a suspect in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a bicyclist earlier this month.
TPD officers were called to the area of Cheney Highway and Foley Road around 2:04 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, after a bicyclist was struck from behind by a silver Chevrolet Camaro.
A TPD spokesperson said the driver—identified as Ronald Kieta, 53, of Titusville—initially stopped but fled moments later without reporting the crash.
The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
In the hours following the incident, investigators relied heavily on the city’s network of Flock Safety license plate readers, which automatically capture and record vehicle details.
Combined with key information from residents, detectives identified the Camaro as the vehicle of interest.
Armed with data from the Flock system, Titusville Police Criminal Investigations Detectives located both Kieta and the vehicle. Interviews and physical evidence led to Kieta’s arrest on November 14.
Kieta was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Brevard County Jail, where he is being held without bond on a charge of leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury.
“Using data from our Flock Safety Systems—which includes license plate readers—and citizens who stepped up to share information, detectives were able to quickly identify and arrest the hit-and-run suspect,” said Titusville Police Detective Sergeant Bryan Nelson.
“This incident highlights the power of teamwork between the community and today’s technology in keeping Titusville safe.”
