25-Year-Old Cocoa Man Dies After Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Wickham Road

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — The Melbourne Police Department has reported that a 25-year-old Cocoa man has died after a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred on Saturday.
Police say the crash happened Saturday, February 1, at approximately 1:51 p.m. on the 3600 block of North Wickham Road when officers responded to the scene following reports of a collision between a vehicle and a motorcycle.
When officers arrived, they discovered that the motorcycle operator had sustained severe injuries. The man was transported to Orlando Health Melbourne Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
According to Melbourne Police, a White Jeep SUV, driven by 20-year-old Ruthie Roman of Melbourne, Florida, was traveling west from a nearby parking lot and attempting to make a left turn onto North Wickham Road.
As the Jeep crossed the southbound lanes, it was struck by a southbound motorcycle in the left lane.
The motorcyclist, identified as 25-year-old Raymond Maldonado Cruz of Cocoa, Florida, died from his injuries.
Authorities have stated that alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors in the crash. The Traffic Enforcement Unit has classified the incident as a Traffic Homicide Investigation.
