Melbourne Police Special Investigations Unit Make Arrests After Street-Level Prostitution Operation

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit recently conducted proactive enforcement targeting street-level prostitution activity.
According to a Melbourne police spokesperson, during this operation, detectives were utilized in an undercover capacity, targeting those who engage in prostitution activity.
The operation took place in south Melbourne on March 7.
The operation resulted in the arrest of Yolanda Smith, 37, who was charged with Prostitution, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and
Felony Warrant; and Terri Johnson, 54, charged with Prostitution (3rd Offense).
The department has 176 sworn officers, 72 non-sworn civilian personnel, one full-time crossing guard coordinator, and 22 part-time crossing guards.
The Special Investigations Unit is part of the Criminal Investigations Division, which is responsible for investigating major crimes, vice and narcotic crimes, and follow-up investigations of other felonious crimes.
To accomplish its mission of investigating and solving felony crimes, the Division is divided into three focused units: the Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene Investigations, and Special Investigations Unit.
The division includes 30 detectives and detective supervisors, five crime scene investigators, and other technical and support personnel.
