COCOA POLICE: Cocoa businesses lost thousands of dollars in copper wire and tools.
BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA—A suspect arrested by Cocoa police detectives for a commercial burglary is also suspected of multiple similar burglaries in which businesses lost thousands of dollars in copper wire and tools.
According to a Cocoa Police Department spokesperson, Keith Edgerton, 44, is facing charges of burglary, possession of burglary tools, grand theft, dealing in stolen property, and felony criminal mischief after being caught with stolen items and burglary tools.
“Detectives believe he is responsible for at least five commercial burglaries, mostly targeting electric companies, where he would steal bundles of insulated wire and sell it for scrap,” said the Cocoa Police Department spokesperson.
“Detectives began to investigate after a series of thefts from businesses along Cox Road. During surveillance operations, the suspect was seen in the area where detectives located buckets full of the wire bundles.”
Further investigation led to a storage unit housing more stolen property. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are likely.
