BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Cocoa Police Department has issued a warning to parents to be aware of growing concerns involving Discord, a popular social media application.
Recent investigations, led by Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, show that predators are using platforms like Roblox and Fortnite to contact children—then moving conversations to Discord.
At least one case under investigation is within the Cocoa Police’s jurisdiction. Police warn parents to be aware of the possibilities and to provide careful oversight of their child’s internet and app use.
What you need to know:
• Kids may be chatting with strangers
• Private conversations can quickly move off gaming platforms
• Parental controls and protections may be limited
Officials urge parents to talk to their kids, know their apps, and monitor their activity. They also emphasize that protecting kids is a shared community responsibility.
