BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA — It’s not every day you see the Chief of Fire Rescue willingly climb into a dunk tank, but that’s exactly what’s happening this Saturday at Hero Fest, held at the Brevard Veterans Memorial Center.
Chief Voltaire of Brevard County Fire Rescue has stepped up — or rather, into — the tank for one of the community’s most anticipated events. Known for his leadership and commitment to public service, the Chief is showing off his lighter side, volunteering to be the target for dunk tank challengers in support of this family-friendly celebration of local heroes.
Hero Fest, scheduled for May 4 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., brings together first responders, veterans, and community members for a day of fun, appreciation, and connection. The dunk tank has already made waves as a crowd favorite, and Chief Voltaire’s participation is sure to add to the excitement.

“Events like Hero Fest remind us how important it is to connect with the community in meaningful — and sometimes wet — ways,” said one event organizer with a smile. “Chief Voltaire has been a tremendous sport, and it’s great to see someone of his rank be so willing to join in the fun.”
Attendees are encouraged to try their hand at dunking the Chief — all in good fun and in the spirit of camaraderie. With perfect spring weather on the horizon and a lineup of activities for all ages, Hero Fest promises to be a splash hit.
So practice your aim and head over to the Brevard Veterans Memorial Center, located at 400 S Sykes Creek Pkwy in Merritt Island, this Saturday. Whether you dunk the Chief or not, you’re guaranteed to have a blast — and support the real heroes of Brevard County.
