Space Coast Vipers Keep Up Their Winning Ways in Spring Football Victory, Crush Father Lopez 53-0

Vipers went 10-3 last season, winning the SSAA Atlantic 1A State Championship

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA–The Space Coast Vipers crushed Father Lopez in a 53-0 rout Friday night in spring football action in Daytona.

Senior running back Kole Gamble scored on runs of 68, 4, and 80 yards, and talented quarterback Zion Sandy threw for three touchdowns, one each to Kayden Thomas, Alex Banachoski and Kaleb Klingenberg.

After the blowout, Viper head coach Jake Owens said, “This was an incredible win. Everyone stepped up.”

The Vipers might have one of the best stories of any team across the state.

With the support and donation of Tampa Bay Buccaneers Quarterback Baker Mayfield, the Vipers, in their new uniforms, took the field with confidence in Daytona against the Green Wave.

The Vipers went 10-3 last season, winning the SSAA Atlantic 1A State Championship, and look primed to win another.

After winning a combined five games in four seasons from 2020 to 2023, the Vipers did the remarkable and doubled that total in the 2024 season.

To top off the ten-win season, the Vipers won the SSAA Atlantic 1A State Championship 21-14 over Bell High School. They fought hard all season, competing until the end, having much success, and winning their first state championship in program history.

Sandy is only a sophomore and looks poised for another big season. Last year, he threw for 1,453 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Senior Alex Banachoski, who plays wide receiver and linebacker, had a pick 6, giving him a touchdown scored on both sides of the ball.

The Viper defense was stingy all last season, with five shutouts. They are starting the 2025 season with yet another, keeping Father Lopez out of the end zone the entire game.

The Vipers will use this momentum for the upcoming 2025 season to defend their reign as champions in the Atlantic 1A.
