Melbourne Police Probing Fatal Shooting Early Sunday Morning Near Vernon Place and E. New Haven Avenue

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne police detectives and crime scene investigators are probing a fatal shooting after officers responded to the area of Vernon Place and E. New Haven Avenue about gunshots being heard at 1:51 a.m. Sunday morning.

The victim’s identity is not being released at this time pending notification to the next of kin.

“Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive subject with an apparent gunshot wound,” said a Melbourne police spokesperson. “Officers and Melbourne Fire Rescue provided medical attention to the subject, however, despite their efforts, they did not survive.”

According to a Melbourne police spokesperson, a person of interest was identified, and there is no further outstanding threat to the general public.
