BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – Royal Caribbean International’s latest Icon-class cruise ship, Star of the Seas, has commenced its sea trials, marking a significant milestone in its journey toward its scheduled debut in August 2025 from Port Canaveral.
On May 18, the vessel departed from the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, where it is currently undergoing an 11-day series of rigorous tests.
Over 2,000 specialists in naval architecture, engineering, navigation, and design are evaluating the ship’s performance across various parameters, including propulsion, navigation systems, and safety protocols.
These trials are essential to ensure the vessel’s readiness for passenger service.
Star of the Seas is poised to become the world’s largest cruise ship, with a gross tonnage of 250,800.
Measuring approximately 1,198 feet in length and spanning 20 decks, the ship is designed to accommodate up to 7,600 guests and 2,350 crew members .
The vessel boasts a plethora of amenities, including the largest waterpark at sea featuring six record-breaking waterslides, seven pools catering to various moods, and over 40 dining and entertainment venues.
Notable attractions include the Crown’s Edge aerial adventure course, the FlowRider surf simulator, and the exclusive Grove Suite Sun Deck for VIP guests .
Following the completion of sea trials, Star of the Seas will return to the Meyer Turku shipyard for final outfitting and preparations.
The ship is scheduled to embark on its inaugural 7-night voyage from Port Canaveral, Florida, on August 31, 2025, with preview sailings planned for August 20, 23, and 27.
Star of the Seas will provide Eastern and Western Caribbean options from Port Canaveral with each sailing calling in Royal Caribbean’s private Bahamian destination, Perfect Day at Coco Cay.
