Heavy Rain and wind gusts of 60 MPH reported on Merritt Island Wednesday

Two construction workers have died following a crane collapse at a job site on Borman Drive, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

BREVARD COUNTY MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Two construction workers have died following a crane collapse at a job site on Borman Drive, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the incident occurred just before 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Though the exact cause of the collapse remains under investigation, the National Weather Service said there were wind gusts of up to 50 mph, along with a period of heavy rain.

Brevard County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tod Goodyear said the two workers succumbed to their injuries, and the identities of the victims have not been made public, pending notification of their families.

Additional details regarding the nature of the construction project or the circumstances leading up to the collapse have not yet been released.
