BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA — Daniel Hernandez, a 23-year-old police officer trainee who joined the Cocoa Police Department in March, has officially completed all required training to become a sworn police officer.

On Tuesday morning, Chief Evander Collier IV administered the Police Officers’ Oath during a special ceremony attended by Hernandez’s family and fellow department members.

A native of Fort Pierce, Florida, Hernandez is the second eldest of four siblings. He graduated on June 3 from the Criminal Justice Academy at Indian River State College and will continue his education by pursuing an associate degree.

In his free time, he enjoys playing soccer, working out at the gym, and spending time with his girlfriend of three years, as well as his two German Shepherds.

Over the coming months, Officer Hernandez will undergo department-specific training, beginning with an introduction to internal policies and procedures.

He will then be paired with a field training officer to gain hands-on experience with operational protocols. Upon successful completion of this phase, he will be assigned to a squad and begin active patrol duties.
