Bicyclist Taken to Hospital as Trauma Alert After Traffic Crash With Pickup Truck on Babcock Street

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – On Tuesday, July 22, at approximately 7:41 am, the Melbourne Police Department received 911 calls regarding a crash involving a vehicle vs a bicycle.
According to an MPD spokesperson, upon the arrival of officers, they found the bicyclist on the ground with apparent injuries. Brevard County Fire Rescue provided emergency medical treatment, and the bicyclist was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center as a trauma alert.
A preliminary investigation revealed that both the vehicle, a Ford F-150, and the bicycle were traveling north on Babcock Street, approaching Florida Avenue.
The bicycle began changing lanes from the outside lane and into the inside lane, which was occupied by the F-150. The driver of the F-150 attempted to move left to avoid the bicycle, but was unable to move far enough away.
The bicycle struck the passenger side of the F-150, and the rider fell off his bicycle into the road.
According to an MPD spokesperson, the witnesses on the scene corroborated the statement provided above.
The identity of the driver is not being released at this time.
