Environmental Protection to Issue Permit for Hazardous Waste Operations at Patrick Space Force Base

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has announced its intent to issue a permit to Cape Canaveral Space Force Station for continued hazardous waste operations at its facility located at Patrick Space Force Base.

This draft permit authorizes the facility to operate a hazardous waste storage unit, a miscellaneous thermal treatment unit, and to continue site-wide corrective action activities.

The permit falls under Florida’s hazardous waste management regulations and the federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act.

The public is encouraged to review the permit documents and related materials, which are available online through the DEP’s OCULUS document system and in person at DEP offices in Orlando and Tallahassee.

Citizens whose interests may be affected by this permitting decision have 45 days from the notice date (July 8, 2025) to file a petition for an administrative hearing. Additionally, anyone may submit comments or request a public meeting to share input on the proposed action.
