BREVARD COUNTY • WEST MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – West Melbourne Police Detectives have arrested 22-year-old Abner Manuel Pagan Otero and charged him with attempted murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after a shooting incident on July 3.

According to West Melbourne Police Lt. Graig Erenstoft, on the afternoon of Thursday, July 3, officers from the West Melbourne Police Department responded to reports of shots fired in the area of South Wickham Road and Coral Drive.

“Upon arrival, officers located several 9mm shell casings on the ground; however, the individuals involved had fled the scene prior to law enforcement’s arrival,” said Lt. Erenstoft.

Later that evening, detectives were able to reconstruct the sequence of events and successfully identified both a victim and the suspect.

Surveillance footage obtained from a nearby business captured a confrontation between the two individuals – the suspect, identified as Otero, who is seen discharging a firearm multiple times in the direction of the victim.

An arrest warrant was subsequently issued for Otero, and he turned himself in to detectives on Friday morning.

Otero is currently being held at the Brevard County Jail without bond, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the West Melbourne Police Department at 321-723-9673.
