BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA — A Brevard man is facing a long list of charges after deputies say he drunkenly caused a disturbance at a local restaurant, threw his dog to the ground, and later threatened law enforcement.

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey condemned the incident in a video statement, which can be seen above, Friday, saying, “Folks, if you have enough evil in your heart, whether you’re drunk or not, to do that to this little baby, you deserve to sit in jail because if you can do that to an animal, you can do it to a human.”

The incident began when Deputies responded just after 8 p.m. Thursday to Gator’s Dockside, located at 683 Dave Nisbet Drive, following reports of an intoxicated patron who was frightening customers and had hurled a small dog onto the pavement.

When deputies arrived, they identified the man as 39-year-old Christopher Stanley.

Witnesses told investigators that Stanley had been disruptive at the restaurant’s Tiki Bar, cursing, yelling, and refusing to leave. A bartender requested that he be trespassed from the property.

According to the arrest report, Stanley continued shouting in the parking lot as deputies approached.

Once taken into custody for disorderly conduct and intoxication, officials say he slammed his head against a patrol car, denting the hood, before making multiple violent threats against law enforcement.

A restaurant manager also reported seeing Stanley lift his dog, Wilson, into the air before throwing him to the ground and saying, “He’s your problem now.”

The dog yelped and ran off, but was later recovered and taken to a local animal hospital for evaluation.

Stanley was booked into the Brevard County Jail on multiple charges, including animal cruelty, disorderly intoxication, criminal mischief, resisting with violence, threats to law enforcement, breach of the peace, and violation of probation.

Wilson remains under veterinary care as the investigation continues.
