“Both K-9 Saint and I will be at the event to help support the great work they do,” Sheriff Ivey said.

The event will raise money for the organization’s newly created halfway house for senior dogs known as “The Landing,” a temporary shelter designed to help older dogs transition from overcrowded shelters into permanent homes.

Founded in 2019 by Melbourne Beach resident Wendy Johnson, Touch of Grey focuses primarily on rescuing and caring for aging dogs, many of whom suffer from medical issues and have slim chances of adoption.

“Unfortunately, a lot of them are found stray,” Johnson said. “A lot of them are in need of medical care.”

The Landing recently began operating in central Melbourne and currently houses only a small number of dogs at a time due to zoning and neighborhood limitations.

Saturday’s fundraiser will include coffee and donuts, merchandise, adoptable dogs, volunteer opportunities, raffles, and door prizes.

Admission to the event is free.
