WASHINGTON, DC — The Trump administration is reportedly preparing to announce that the use of Tylenol during pregnancy could be tied to autism, a move that conflicts with longstanding medical guidelines.

According to a Washington Post report citing unnamed sources, officials plan to unveil the new position on Monday.

The announcement is also expected to highlight research into whether leucovorin, a drug typically used in cancer treatment, might help ease autism symptoms.

The plan marks a major shift in public health messaging.

Acetaminophen — the active ingredient in Tylenol, known as paracetamol outside the United States — is widely recommended as safe for pregnant women when used as directed. Major medical bodies, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, continue to advise that the drug poses no proven risk to fetal development.

President Donald Trump said the upcoming announcement during a Sunday memorial service for conservative activist Charlie Kirk, telling attendees, “I think we found an answer to autism.”

A day earlier, he called the pending policy rollout “one of the most important things that we will do.”

The move follows earlier reporting from the Wall Street Journal that Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was preparing to link prenatal Tylenol use to autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Autism is a developmental condition characterized by social and communication challenges as well as repetitive behaviors.

While some small-scale studies of leucovorin have suggested possible improvements in language and comprehension among children with autism, scientists caution that the findings are preliminary.

Kennedy, who has frequently criticized mainstream medical guidance, has claimed that the United States is facing an “autism epidemic” tied to environmental factors.

Most researchers agree that autism’s origins are complex, involving genetic predisposition and possibly environmental influences.
