BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Bayside Bears girls basketball team finished the season as the FHSAA Class 6A state runner-up after falling to St. Thomas Aquinas 65-22 in the state championship game Saturday at UNF Arena in Jacksonville.

St. Thomas Aquinas built an early lead and maintained control throughout the game. The Raiders outscored Bayside 20-3 in the first quarter and extended the advantage to 43-7 by halftime.

Bayside finished the game shooting 7-of-30 from the field (23.3%), including 1-of-11 from three-point range, while St. Thomas Aquinas shot 25-of-43 (58.1%) from the floor.

Senior Carleyssia Wallace led Bayside with 8 points and 6 rebounds, while Ellieyana Wallace added 7 points. Shamora Scott finished with 4 points, and Kamorah Sharpe added 2 points and four rebounds.

St. Thomas Aquinas was led by London Thomas, who scored 18 points, and Catalina LaFreniere, who added 17 points.

The Bears showed improvement in the second half, scoring eight points in the third quarter and seven in the fourth, but the early deficit proved too large to overcome.

Bayside advanced to the championship game after defeating Bartram Trail in the state semifinal earlier in the week.

The appearance marked one of the deepest postseason runs in program history, with the Bears finishing the season as the Class 6A state runner-up.
