Strength vs. Speed as Hornets, Commodores Battle for Regional Supremacy

ORLANDO, FLORIDA — On Friday at 7 p.m., Eau Gallie Commodores will travel to face the Bishop Moore Hornets in the 2025 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 3A Region Final — a high-stakes rematch of last season’s Region 2-2A championship game that produced one of the wildest finishes in program history.
Last year, as the No. 1 seed, Eau Gallie edged Bishop Moore 26–24 in the 2024 region final to reach the state semifinals — one of the deepest playoff runs in Commodore history.
This season, however, sees the roles flipped: Bishop Moore enters as the top seed, while Eau Gallie is slotted at No. 2.
Eau Gallie earned its spot in the regional final with wins in the quarterfinals and semifinals. The Commodores shut out Tavares High School 26–0 in the regional quarterfinals, then beat Merritt Island High School 35–14 in the semifinals.
The semifinal victory included three interceptions on defense — two by defensive backs and one returned for a touchdown — underscoring Eau Galle’s opportunistic defense.
Meanwhile, Bishop Moore has stormed into the final with dominant, high-scoring wins. In the regional quarterfinals, they crushed Hernando High School 61–6, then rolled over Eastside High School 36–8 in the semifinals.
In that game, running back Amar’E Johnson erupted for 234 yards and two touchdowns, while Kenyon Alston hauled in 73 yards and two scores — highlighting the Hornets’ explosive offense.
Bishop Moore now boasts an 11–1 record on the year; Eau Galle enters at 9–3.

Clash of Styles: Ground Versus Air
The upcoming matchup presents a stark contrast in offensive identity. Eau Galle has leaned on a potent rushing attack all season, averaging roughly 257.4 rushing yards per game.
Bishop Moore, by contrast, has made its mark as a vertical-threat team, putting up nearly 290 passing yards per game.
Which strategy prevails — grind-it-out on the ground or strike quickly through the air — could determine the region’s representative in the state semifinals.
For Eau Galle, last season’s narrow 26–24 win over Bishop Moore remains a high-water mark. The Commodores’ three consecutive district championships — and a deep postseason run — fuel their confidence coming in.
For Bishop Moore, this is redemption time.
The Hornets — a storied program out of Bishop Moore Catholic High School in Orlando — enter 2025 as the No. 1 seed and are heavily favored at home. A win would erase the sting of last year’s loss, while a loss would cement back-to-back heartbreaks against Eau Galle.
With a trip to the state semifinals on the line, Friday’s game is shaping up as the marquee battle in Central Florida high-school football this week.
