BREVARD COUNTY• MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — Eau Gallie delivered a dominant two-way performance to defeat rival Merritt Island 35–14, earning a spot in next week’s Region 2-3A championship game vs. Bishop Moore on Friday, Nov. 28.

Merritt Island struck first when Kevin Verpaele powered in from three yards out late in the opening quarter.

The Commodores (9-3) answered quickly. With 42 seconds left in the first, Xavier Lherisse knifed into the end zone on a 14-yard run to put Eau Gallie ahead 7–6.

Lherisse broke the game open early in the second quarter, exploding for an 88-yard touchdown that brought the home crowd to its feet.

Merritt Island fought back just before halftime, tying the score on a 3-yard touchdown pass from Verpaele to Donterrius Robinson Jr. with 26 seconds remaining.

But Eau Gallie wasn’t done. As time expired in the half, Lherisse dropped back and floated a 34-yard scoring pass to Captain Rolle, giving the Commodores a 21–14 advantage at the break.

Defense carried Eau Gallie the rest of the way.

Late in the third quarter, James Agenor jumped a route and returned an interception 63 yards for a touchdown.

In the fourth, Trae Hill added another pick-six — this time from 50 yards — sealing the win. Rolle secured a late interception as the Commodores closed out the Mustangs, who finished the season at 7-5.
