BREVARD COUNTY • PORT ST. JOHN, FLORIDA – Following the shooting investigation earlier today in Port St. John, our agency has arrested 23-year-old Tyjah Bellinger for the shooting death of 28-year-old Lendzi Lakeman.
The investigation began after Deputies responded to multiple calls for service around 12:15 p.m. regarding shots fired in the 7000 block of Carlow Ave, Port St. John.
Upon arrival, Deputies located a female victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds who, despite life-saving efforts, succumbed to her wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
During the initial investigation conducted by Patrol Deputies, it was determined that Bellinger, who is the victim’s boyfriend, was responsible for the shooting.
Deputies responded to multiple locations where Bellinger was believed to have fled and ultimately located him at a residence on Dallas Avenue in Port St. John, where he was immediately taken into custody without incident.
As a result of the shooting, Agents from our BCSO Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation with our Crime Scene Unit processing multiple scenes in the area.
Bellinger was charged with 1st Degree Premeditated Murder after an arrest warrant was signed following the initial investigation. Bellinger is currently being held in the Brevard County Jail on a ‘No Bond’ status.
Homicide Agents and Crime Scene personnel are still at the scene conducting interviews and collecting evidence. Anyone who may have additional information in reference to this investigation is asked to contact Agent Kevin Morris of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Homicide Unit at 321-633-8413.
I am extremely grateful for the quick actions of our Patrol Deputies who took Bellinger into custody. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim as they face this most difficult time.
