BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey recently swore in graduates of the second class of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Basic Recruit Training Program as Deputy Sheriffs.

“Our Training & Recruitment Unit provides all instruction for recruits, from Defensive Tactics to Vehicle Operations to Firearms Training, ensuring they excel in their preparation to serve as Deputy Sheriffs,” said Sheriff Ivey.

In addition to hands-on training, the curriculum emphasizes academic standards, and this class achieved an incredible 95.16% average.

“I could not be more proud of our instructors for the amazing job they did with preparing this class for their journey through the academy,” said Sheriff Ivey.

“I am extremely grateful for our partnership with Eastern Florida State College, which works closely with our agency to facilitate each Law Enforcement and Corrections Academy. To the graduating class…25-L2, you each set the bar high and showed us just how ready you were to join our BCSO family and to help protect our community.

“Please join me in congratulating the 12 newest Deputy Sheriffs of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office as they begin their journey protecting our incredible citizens,” said Sheriff Ivey.

“The Sheriff’s Office is committed to equipping recruits with the knowledge and skills necessary to begin and excel in their new career as a Brevard County Deputy,” said BCSO Undersheriff Doug Waller, a 40-year law enforcement veteran with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

“Through a partnership with Eastern Florida State College, the Sheriff’s Office conducts the academies at Sheriff’s Office facilities and uses Sheriff’s Office instructors, during which cadets earn college credit from EFSC and state certification upon successful completion of the program and the state exam.”

The Sheriff’s Office has over 1,600 members serving in many exciting capacities with opportunities such as Patrol, Corrections, Training & Recruitment, Agents, SWAT, Aviation, Dive Team, K-9, Traffic Enforcement, Honor Guard, Agriculture/Marine, School Resource, Field Training, Local/State & Federal Task Force, Court Security, Pubic Safety Telecommunicators, Judicial Process, Fleet Maintenance, Victim Advocates, and Legal Services.

■ At the BCSO Law Enforcement Academy, students complete 770 hours of training in areas such as Communications, Legal, Fundamentals of Patrol, Serving Your Community, and high-liability training in Firearms, First Aid, Defensive Tactics, and Vehicle Operations.

■ At the BCSO Corrections Academy, students participate in 445 hours of intensive training, including educational blocks on Legal, Shift Management and Safety, and Incidents / Emergencies in Correctional Facilities.

Correctional academy students also receive high-level training in First Aid, Firearms, Defensive Tactics, and Officer Wellness.

Deputy Trainees attending the Academy at the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office utilize the latest law enforcement training technology, including highly advanced virtual reality platforms designed to enhance decision-making skills during scenario-based training.
