Florida Education Budget Proposal Boosts Funding for Safe Schools, Campus Security

FLORIDA, USA – The Florida Department of Education announced that Governor Ron DeSantis’ Floridians First budget proposal for the 2026 to 2027 fiscal year includes a significant increase in funding aimed at strengthening safety across educational institutions statewide.
Under the proposal, $300 million is allocated to the Safe Schools Allocation, representing a $10 million increase over the previous year’s funding.
State officials said the increased investment reflects a continued focus on maintaining secure learning environments for students and staff throughout Florida.

The proposal highlights $64 million dedicated to school hardening initiatives within higher education institutions. These funds are intended to support infrastructure and security improvements designed to enhance campus safety.
In addition, $6 million is earmarked for state colleges and universities to establish Guardian Programs on their campuses, expanding existing safety measures into the higher education system.
Education leaders said the funding underscores the administration’s ongoing commitment to prioritizing student safety at every level of education.
The Florida Department of Education emphasized that the proposed investments build upon previous efforts to protect schools while adapting to evolving security needs across the state.
