(USCG) – A U.S. Coast Guard Station Lake Worth Inlet boat crew rescued seven people Monday after a 61-foot sport fishing vessel began taking on water near Peanut Island.

Coast Guard officials said the vessel’s captain took quick action by grounding the boat on Peanut Island to prevent further flooding.

After securing the vessel, the captain issued a distress call on marine radio Channel 16, prompting the Coast Guard response. The boat crew arrived on scene and safely rescued all seven people on board, with no reported injuries.

Commercial salvage crews are now working to dewater and remove the vessel. Officials confirmed the operation does not pose any hazards to navigation in the area.

The Coast Guard noted that the incident highlights the importance of having proper communication equipment and safety devices on board, as well as remaining calm during an emergency. Those actions, officials said, contributed to a successful rescue operation.
