High Rip Current Risk, Hazardous Surf Expected Along Space Coast Through Week

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A high risk of dangerous surf and rip currents is expected to persist along Central Florida’s Atlantic coast throughout the week, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.
Forecasters warn that beachgoers should remain out of the ocean and follow guidance from local beach patrols as hazardous conditions continue for the next several days.
The primary concern is a sustained high risk of rip currents, which is expected to impact all Atlantic beaches in East-Central Florida through at least Friday. Rip currents can quickly pull swimmers away from shore and are considered life-threatening, even for experienced swimmers.
In addition to the rip current threat, breaking surf will remain elevated due to persistent onshore winds. Waves are forecast to reach between 4 and 7 feet, with the highest surf expected on Monday.
While conditions may gradually ease later in the week, hazardous surf is expected to continue at elevated levels.
Boating conditions are also expected to deteriorate, particularly across the open Atlantic waters.
Officials say seas will remain rough, with the most hazardous conditions likely developing over the Gulf Stream by midweek.
The National Weather Service advises residents and visitors to exercise caution, avoid entering the water, and stay informed on the latest beach and marine advisories as conditions remain dangerous along the Space Coast.
