BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – After hearing public comment during its Jan. 20 meeting, the Brevard County School Board voted unanimously to close Cape View Elementary School, citing declining enrollment and rising operational costs as key factors in the decision.

Board members approved the closure on a 5-0 vote following remarks from parents, teachers and community members who addressed the potential impact on students and families.

Despite concerns raised during public comment, the board determined that the school’s low student population made it increasingly difficult to operate efficiently, particularly in light of the high costs associated with maintaining the campus.

District officials noted that operating under capacity places added financial strain on the school system and limits resources that could be directed toward other schools and programs.

The closure is part of broader efforts by Brevard Public Schools to manage enrollment shifts and ensure fiscal responsibility across the district.

Details regarding student reassignment, transportation, and the timeline for the closure are expected to be provided by the district in the coming weeks.
