Laughter, it’s been said, is the best medicine, and, particularly given the April Fool’s timeframe, Melbourne Municipal Band has the prescription for the perfect time with its ‘Why so Serious?’ pair of free concerts at 7 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday, April 1-2, at Melbourne Auditorium, 625 E. BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Laughter, it’s been said, is the best medicine, and, particularly given the April Fool’s timeframe, Melbourne Municipal Band has the prescription for the perfect time with its ‘Why so Serious?’ pair of free concerts at 7 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday, April 1-2, at Melbourne Auditorium, 625 E. Hibiscus Blvd.

Conducted by Staci Rosbury, the 80-piece Melbourne Municipal Band will let their hair down with smile-invoking music.

“We selected a program that is light and fun, yet showcases the strengths of individual instruments,” Rosbury said.

A case in point is the theme song from “The Simpsons” by Danny Elfman. The well-loved and whimsical composition that so perfectly reflects the show’s humor has become an often-referenced cultural touchstone. The use of a full symphonic band enhances the listening experience with added depth and richness of sound.

Other selections include the catchy “Clapping Song,” a 1965 novelty hit by American
composer Shirley Ellis, the zany “Let Me be Frank with You,” the spirited and uniquely named “Symbiopholie!” and, among others, “Hooray for Hollywood,” the anthem of the film industry.

“I think the world is too serious these days,” Rosbury added. “With “Why so Serious?”, we’re dialing back solemnity.”

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with pre-show entertainment by the Swingtome Bones trombone ensemble.

Enjoy dinner and a show with the chef-curated entrees and bar menu from on-site concessionaire City Bistro.

Admission is free and no tickets are required. For more information, visit MelbourneMunicipalBand.org or call 321-724-0555.
