Brevard Sheriff’s Deputies Write 112 Traffic Citations on Day 1 of Interstate-95 Enforcement Operation

Additional violations included 10 move-over violations, 5 cases of driving while license suspended, and multiple citations for following too closely

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office issued a total of 112 traffic citations during a recent enforcement operation, underscoring its warning to drivers to take traffic safety seriously on local roadways.

According to the agency, the enforcement effort focused on Interstate 95 and resulted in a wide range of violations being cited. Speeding accounted for the majority of the tickets, with 86 drivers cited.

Additional violations included 10 move-over violations, five cases of driving while license suspended, and multiple citations for following too closely, no proof of insurance, equipment violations, expired tags, seatbelt violations, careless driving, and the use of handheld devices while driving. One citation was also issued for fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement.

Sheriff Wayne Ivey emphasized that the operation was not a bluff, stating that drivers who ignored previous warnings would be held accountable for unsafe driving.

The sheriff’s office noted that the citations serve as a reminder to motorists to slow down, follow traffic laws, and drive responsibly while traveling through Brevard County.

BCSO reiterated that traffic enforcement efforts will continue and encouraged drivers to prioritize safety to help prevent crashes and save lives on local highways.

The initiative, titled “This Is the Only Warning You’re Getting,” was announced during a news conference on Monday by Sheriff Wayne Ivey.

Ivey said speed-related crashes continue to be one of the leading causes of serious injuries and fatalities on the busy interstate corridor, which runs the length of Brevard County. The new effort will deploy additional deputies and troopers along high-risk stretches of I-95, focusing on drivers who exceed posted speed limits, weave through traffic, or ignore posted speed limits.

According to the sheriff, the campaign’s name is intentional. Rather than issue repeated cautions, law enforcement plans to move straight to enforcement when violations are observed.

“Our goal isn’t to write tickets — it’s to save lives,” Ivey said, stressing that the initiative is designed to change dangerous driving habits before they end in tragedy. “If you choose to speed on I-95, expect to see blue lights in your rearview mirror. This truly is the only warning you’re getting.”

Florida Highway Patrol leaders echoed the message, noting that speeding increases both the likelihood and severity of crashes, putting not only drivers but also passengers and first responders at risk. Troopers will coordinate patrols with deputies, including periods of heightened enforcement during peak travel times.

In addition to increased patrol visibility, officials said the public will see targeted messaging reminding motorists to slow down, buckle up, and give other drivers space.

The initiative will remain in place through the coming months, with agencies tracking data to determine its impact on crash numbers and roadway safety. Sheriff Ivey urged drivers to do their part by simply obeying the law.
