The roof replacement is necessary following damage from an intense thunderstorm in July 2025. Officials said the repairs are part of ongoing efforts to improve the facility and ensure it remains safe for public use.

The center was previously closed in June of 2025 following a roof collapse caused by severe storms. This closure prompted the relocation of several key programs and activities to ensure that community members can continue to access vital services without interruption.

During this second closure, regularly scheduled programs will be relocated.

The Seniors at Lunch and Bone Builders programs will be held at the Eddie Lee Taylor, Sr. Community Center. Melbourne Police Athletic League Winter League games will be moved to Stone Middle School in Melbourne.

Officials noted that no facility rentals will be available while the center is closed. The city expressed appreciation for the public’s patience and understanding as the improvements are completed.
