BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – Alfonso Cubillos, a native of Argentina who now lives in Florida, will perform amazing feats of strength at the Spring Space Coast State Fair, set to open Saturday at Space Coast Daily Park in Viera, and run through Sunday, March 1.
“We love performing in Brevard as the people are always so nice, friendly, and appreciative of what we do,” said Cubillos.
So Cubillos and his girlfriend, Irene Espana, packed up their trailer and drove hundreds of miles to the Space Coast.
Both Cubillos and Espana are from generations-old circus families. Espana traveled the world as a trapeze artist; Cubillos’ father was a tent boss, always moving the show to grateful audiences.
Cubillo’s career as a strong man began when he was ten, pounding tent stakes with a 40-pound sledgehammer. Stocky, barrel-chested, and easy to smile, Cubillos is on the teddy bear end of the strong man spectrum.
His exciting and amazing 25-minute show consists of a handful of physical “tricks,” as he calls them.
The Xtreme Strong Man show has no smoke, mirrors, fire, or misdirection – just Cubillos in a black t-shirt and leather vest, throwing around old tires, busting a chain wrapped around his chest, tossing a 35-pound kettlebell into the air, and driving a spike through a block of wood, first using his fist, then his head.
The climax of the Xtreme Strong Man show features Cubillos pulling a KELLY FORD F150 pickup truck with his teeth and a chain. The trick, he said, is to bite the piece of leather attached to one end of the chain like a pit bull.
“You can’t relax,” he said. “Breathe through your nose, just keep biting, keep your weight back, and pull.”
Did it hurt the first time he tried the stunt?
“Yeah, it hurt my jaw, and it hurt my neck for a couple of days,” Cubillos shrugged. “After a while, you get used to it. You have to like it. You have to love what you do.”

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – The spring season in Brevard County means one thing for families and fun-seekers alike — the return of the much-anticipated Space Coast Spring Fair, set to take over Space Coast Daily Park in Viera for 11 days of food, rides, entertainment, and community spirit.
