City of Melbourne, Macedonia CDC Celebrate New Affordable Home with Ribbon Cutting

Project marks nearly 20 years of partnership and the ninth home completed in South Brevard
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – An important milestone for the Melbourne community was celebrated as officials from the City of Melbourne joined Macedonia Community Development Corporation of South Brevard at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new affordable home on Reverend Nathaniel L. Harris Street.
“Today is about more than just cutting a ribbon,” Melbourne City Manager Jenni Lamb said during the ceremony.
“It is about opening doors of opportunity, stability, and hope for the families who need it most. Affordable housing strengthens communities by helping families and keeping neighborhoods healthy.”
Macedonia has partnered with the City of Melbourne for nearly 20 years, and this was the ninth home that Macedonia has completed since 2008.
“As you drive around this neighborhood, the impact is noticeable,” Lamb said. “What once was a vacant lot is now a home — not just brick and mortar but a sense of belonging, a place where memories will be made.”
The City of Melbourne provided construction funds from the federal HOME Investment Partnership Program (HOME).
HOME is a program of the Housing and Urban Improvement Division (HUD) that provides grants to state and local governments to create affordable housing for low-income households.
The City of Melbourne’s Housing and Urban Improvement Division administers a variety of federal- and state-funded housing and community development programs, such as HOME, to provide affordable housing, fair housing, public services, public facilities and improvements, supportive services, and economic opportunities for low- and moderate-income residents of the City.
Four years ago, the Melbourne City Council also dedicated $4 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to help develop three new affordable housing projects in the City of Melbourne.
Macedonia Community Development Corporation of South Brevard, in partnership with Space Coast Habitat for Humanity, received $500,000 to help fund three affordable homes in South Melbourne.
BNDC/Neighbor Up Brevard received $500,000 to construct eight multifamily units on Masterson Street. All four of these projects are currently under construction.
The remaining $3 million was granted to Providence Place, an affordable housing complex with 120 apartment units and on-site services for individuals and families facing homelessness in Melbourne.
A land dedication ceremony for the project was held in November 2025, and Providence Place expects to complete construction and welcome its first residents in 2027.
