Cocoa Family’s 3-Month-Old Infant Dies; Cause of Death Pending Autopsy

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA — Cocoa police detectives are investigating the death of a 3-month-old infant who was found unresponsive Tuesday at a home near the intersection of Pineda Street and Duke Way.
According to the Cocoa Police Department, officers were called to the residence on Tuesday, where they discovered the baby deceased. Few details about the circumstances surrounding the child’s death have been released, as the investigation remains in its early stages.
Authorities confirmed that an autopsy will be conducted in the coming days to determine the cause and manner of death. Police have not said whether foul play is suspected, and no arrests or charges have been announced.
Reporters at the scene on Tuesday evening observed the property surrounded by crime scene tape as investigators processed the area.
Police said a couple had moved into the residence only days before the incident and that the infant whose death is under investigation was their child.
Several neighbors told authorities they were surprised to learn someone had recently moved into the home, noting that they were unfamiliar with the occupants and had little interaction with them.
Cocoa police said detectives are continuing to gather information, interview witnesses, and review any evidence that may help explain what happened. Officials are urging anyone with information related to the case to contact the Cocoa Police Department.
This is a developing story, and additional details are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
