BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College men’s basketball team clinched a spot in the FCSAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship with Saturday’s win.
The Titans defeated Hillsborough Community College 90-80 to pick up their ninth straight win and go to 10-3 in the conference and 21-6 overall.
Eastern Florida State College came out fast, going on a 12-0 run to lead 14-2 and the lead would reach 27-9 on a Nick Oliver 3-pointer midway through the first half.
But from there it would be Hillsborough who would go on a run and cut the lead all the way down to two before a big Joviel Acevedo-Arroyo 3-pointer in the final seconds of the first half.
Up five after the first half, Hillsborough would cut it back to two at 47-45 before Tyson Wilson’s basket started another Titans run, this time a 10-0 run that would give the Titans the edge they needed the rest of the way.
Sean Register Jr. once again led the Titans attack with 26 points while Acevedo-Arroyo finished with 20 points. Wilson and Misael Cruz Rodriguez each finished with 15 points in the win.
Eastern Florida State College will be home for the final time this season on Wednesday night when the Titans host Indian River State College.
The game will begin at 7 p.m. and the sophomore class will be honored after the game.
