USCG • FLORIDA – A U.S. Coast Guard Station Tybee boat crew rescued a kayaker the evening of January 25, after he became stuck in the mud near Oyster Creek as weather conditions worsened and communication became difficult.

According to the Coast Guard, the kayaker was unable to free himself as conditions deteriorated, prompting a coordinated response from multiple agencies.

Crews from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division also responded to assist in the search and rescue effort.

The Coast Guard boat crew located the stranded kayaker and safely transported him to Bull River Marina. There, he was reunited with his family without reported injury.

Officials with the U.S. Coast Guard Southeast District emphasized that Coast Guard personnel remain on watch around the clock and are prepared to respond to maritime emergencies at any time.

They also urged boaters and paddlers to check weather conditions before heading out and to carry a reliable means of communication to help ensure a timely response in the event of an emergency.
