WASHINGTON D.C. – President Donald Trump warned Iran against placing naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz, saying U.S. forces have already destroyed 10 Iranian vessels believed to be used for deploying the explosive devices and cautioning that further military action could follow.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Iran should immediately remove any mines that may have been placed in the key shipping route.

“If for any reason mines were placed, and they are not removed forthwith, the military consequences to Iran will be at a level never seen before,” Trump wrote. He added that removing any mines would be “a giant step in the right direction.”

Trump also said U.S. forces are using technology and missile capabilities previously deployed against drug traffickers to target vessels attempting to lay mines in the waterway. He warned that any boat or ship trying to mine the Strait would be “dealt with quickly and violently.”

In a follow-up message, Trump said U.S. forces had already destroyed 10 inactive mine-laying boats or ships, adding that more operations could follow.

U.S. War Secretary Pete Hegseth said American forces have been eliminating the mines with what he described as “ruthless precision.”

“We will not allow terrorists to hold the Strait of Hormuz hostage,” Hegseth wrote on X, adding that Iran had been “put on notice.”
