WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Central Command announced Wednesday that American forces have struck or sunk more than 20 Iranian vessels as part of Operation Epic Fury.
In a statement posted to X, CENTCOM said the latest action included the destruction of a Soleimani-class warship, bringing the total number of Iranian ships hit during the operation to more than 20.
“U.S. forces have struck or sunk to the bottom of the ocean more than 20 ships from the Iranian regime. Last night, CENTCOM added a Soleimani-class warship to the list,” the command wrote.
Speaking Wednesday morning at the Pentagon, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth confirmed the strike, saying U.S. forces sank what he described as Iran’s “prize ship.”
“Last night we sunk their prize ship, the Soleimani,” Hegseth said.
He also referenced the ship’s namesake, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Qasem Soleimani, who was killed in a U.S. drone strike ordered by President Donald Trump in 2020.
“Looks like POTUS got him twice,” Hegseth added.
