Police Investigating After Body Found in Intracoastal Waterway Near the Melbourne Causeway

Melbourne police detectives are investigating after the body of an adult man was discovered Tuesday morning in the Intracoastal Waterway near the Melbourne Causeway. MPD officials have identified the man, but his name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — Melbourne police detectives are investigating after the body of an adult man was discovered Tuesday morning in the Intracoastal Waterway near the Melbourne Causeway.

MPD officials have identified the man, but his name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

According to the Melbourne police officials, officers were dispatched at approximately 8:04 a.m. on April 14 following reports of a body in the water along the north side of the causeway.

When MPD officers arrived, they located the deceased man in shallow water near the barrier wall.

Investigators said a campsite believed to be connected to the individual was found along the riverbank just west of where the body was recovered.

The MPD Dive Recovery Team responded to assist in removing the man from the water.

“Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the death,” said a MPD spokesperson.

At this time, police said there are no immediate indications of foul play or a criminal act.

The investigation remains active, and officials say additional information will be released as it becomes available.
