24-Year-Old Palm Bay Motorcyclist Killed in Late-Night Melbourne Crash Near Montreal Ave.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A 24-year-old Palm Bay man was killed late Saturday night after a motorcycle crash in Melbourne, according to the Melbourne Police Department.
Police said officers responded at approximately 11:40 p.m. on May 3 to the area of Montreal Avenue and Highland Avenue following a 911 call reporting a vehicle crash.
When officers arrived, investigators determined a 2011 black Kawasaki Concours 14 motorcycle had left the roadway and struck an aluminum fence, a concrete light pole, and a concrete fence post.
The driver, identified as Omar Benkhye, 24, of Palm Bay, was ejected from the motorcycle and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to police.
Brevard County Fire Rescue transported Benkhye to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The crash forced all lanes in the area to close for several hours while investigators processed the scene.
The Melbourne Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit is actively investigating the fatal crash.
