U.S. Army Tests ‘Hammer of the Gods’ System to Disrupt Enemy Precision Weapons

The U.S. Army has tested a new electronic warfare system designed to secretly disrupt the navigation signals used by enemy precision-guided weapons, potentially reducing an adversary’s ability to strike targets accurately from long distances.

Known as “Hammer of the Gods,” the system underwent its first maritime test in mid-July during the Project Convergence Capstone 6 experiment off the West Coast of the United States.

The Army previously demonstrated land-based versions of the technology during the past two years, but the recent exercise marked the official debut of a portable variant designed for operations at sea.

The system jams positioning, navigation and timing signals—including GPS data—used by long-range artillery, guided missiles and cruise missiles to reach their intended targets.

By interfering with that information, “Hammer of the Gods” can significantly reduce a weapon’s accuracy, increasing the risk of missed targets, operational delays and unsuccessful missions. The system is also designed to operate covertly, making it more difficult for opposing forces to locate or counter it.

In addition to disrupting enemy weapons, the technology helps establish a resilient communications network for friendly forces. That capability could allow U.S. military units to remain connected and coordinate operations in environments where electronic jamming is widespread.

The maritime test highlights the Army’s continued effort to expand electronic warfare capabilities across multiple operational domains as modern militaries increasingly rely on satellite navigation and precision-guided weapons.
