High Rip Current Risk Extended Through Brevard County Beaches on Wednesday

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Beachgoers across Florida’s east coast are being urged to stay out of the ocean today as dangerous surf conditions continue to intensify.
Based on morning reports from ocean rescue officials, the high rip current risk that was already in effect for the beaches of Volusia and Brevard counties has now been extended farther south to include the Treasure Coast.
Brevard County Ocean Rescue officials strongly advise against entering the surf due to life-threatening rip currents capable of quickly pulling even experienced swimmers away from shore.
Rip currents are powerful, narrow channels of fast-moving water that can sweep swimmers into deeper water within seconds.
Conditions like these can become especially hazardous when rough surf and strong onshore winds are present.
Residents and visitors are urged to avoid swimming at all east central Florida beaches today and to follow guidance from local lifeguards and public safety officials.
If you become caught in a rip current, remain calm, float or tread water, and swim parallel to shore once the current weakens. If unable to escape, wave and call for help immediately.
Brevard County Ocean Rescue officials stress that the safest choice today is to stay out of the water entirely until conditions improve.
