Kenzlee Jones drives in five runs as softball action begins; Merritt Island blanks Space Coast in Intermediate baseball
The 2026 Florida District 22 Little League All-Star tournaments got underway, with Mims Little League, Merritt Island Little League, Port St. John Little League, and Space Coast Little League opening postseason play at sites across Brevard County.
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — The 2026 Florida District 22 Little League All-Star tournaments got underway, with Mims Little League, Merritt Island Little League, Port St. John Little League, and Space Coast Little League opening postseason play at sites across Brevard County.
In the 8/9/10 Softball Division at McKnight Family Sports Complex in Rockledge, Mims Little League rolled to a commanding 14-1 victory over Port St. John.
Kenzlee Jones powered the Mims offense, driving in five runs on two hits. Jones delivered a three-run triple in the first inning and added another triple in the second inning that plated two more runs.
Mims quickly seized control in the opening frame. Rylie Hudson singled home a run before Jones’ triple and a wild pitch helped build an early lead.
The game broke open during a nine-run second inning.
Bernadette Parrish drew a bases-loaded walk, Peyton Headrick singled in two runs, Hudson added another RBI single, and Aubrie Fils-Aime earned a run-scoring walk.
Jones capped the outburst with her second triple of the night and later stole home.
Headrick earned the win in the circle, allowing one run on four hits over four innings while striking out seven and issuing no walks.
Port St. John was led offensively by Adysen M., who collected two hits in two at-bats and stole two bases. Aurora M. added an RBI.
The teams are scheduled to meet again on Saturday for Game 2 of the series.
On an adjacent field, Merritt Island Little League defeated Mims 10-4 in the 10/11/12 Softball Division opener.
Lilly Labarberra tossed a complete game to secure the victory for Merritt Island. Offensively, Julianna Plajana and Avaa Whaley-Mullins each scored two runs to pace the winning effort.
For Mims, Ella McGowan reached base in all three of her plate appearances and scored one run.
The two teams will square off again Saturday morning.
At MILA Field in Merritt Island, the Intermediate (50/70) Baseball Division saw host Merritt Island Little League shut out Space Coast Little League 10-0.
After a scoreless start, Merritt Island broke through in the third inning when Caiden Garrett drove in the game’s first run on a sacrifice groundout.
Merritt Island added four runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by Parker Gleason’s two-run home run to left field and a two-run single from Jayden Deoleo.
The hosts put the game away in the sixth inning with another four-run rally. Raymond Dorsagno launched a solo home run, Jackson Blalock delivered a two-run single, and Deoleo added another RBI single.
Dorsagno dominated on the mound, throwing six scoreless innings while allowing just one hit, striking out nine, and walking three.
Space Coast’s lone hit came from Cook Holland, while Jackson Utz swiped two bases.
Both teams are scheduled to return to the field Saturday for Game 2 of their series.
District 22 All-Star tournament action continues throughout the weekend as teams compete for district championships and opportunities to advance.
