Tropical Disturbance in Northeast Gulf Now Has 80% Chance of Development, NHC Says

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — A low-pressure system in the northeastern Gulf of America now has a high (80%) chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 48 hours, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne and the National Hurricane Center’s 8 a.m. Sunday tropical update.

Forecasters say the disturbance has become better organized, increasing the likelihood that it could strengthen into a tropical depression while moving slowly across the northeastern Gulf.

Despite the increased development potential, significant impacts are not expected across east-central Florida, including Brevard County.

The National Weather Service said residents and visitors should continue to monitor the latest forecasts as the system evolves, but no major weather impacts are currently anticipated for the Space Coast.

The disturbance is expected to remain over the Gulf during the next couple of days, where environmental conditions could support additional development.

While east-central Florida is not expected to experience significant effects from the system, weather officials encourage everyone to remain weather aware throughout hurricane season and stay informed of any forecast changes.
