BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Week 1 of the FHSAA football season started Friday night and across Brevard County there was plenty of fireworks and excitement along with several weather delays.
While it is just the beginning of the season, there are a couple of teams that have made some real statements across the county.
Week 1 scoreboard
Thursday, August 20
Satellite 52 – Halifax Academy 0
Satellite starts their season 2-0 and Dan Burke is looking to follow up their 10-2 season from a year ago with another successful campaign.
Friday, August 21
Viera 25 – Rockledge 20
The backyard brawl lived up to its name as a scrappy close contest; Viera edged out the Raiders in a close one. Going forward, both of these teams should be competitive teams in their respective districts.
Melbourne 35 – Heritage 10
Melbourne made a major statement a week ago when they dominated Cocoa, but people were really anxious to see if the Bulldogs were a real contender. Needless to say, they are; they will have another opportunity to prove themselves next week against Merritt Island.
MCC 44 – Victory Christian Academy 13
Ryan Schneider has the Hustlers’ offense humming, putting up 90 points over the first two games (KOC & Week 1). Next week they will have their first real test as they go on the road to face Bishop Moore, who reached the final four a season ago.
Eau Gallie 7 – Carrollwood Day 41
Without a doubt, going on the road to a talented Carrollwood Day team was going to be a tall task, but I do not believe many saw the Commodores falling the way they did. They will have to regroup as they get ready for Heritage next Friday.
Titusville 24 – Oviedo 22
Titusville showed a lot of promise in the Kickoff Classic, giving Cardinal Gibbons a run for their money. Oviedo has put a good program together for many years, and Titusville pulled off the win in heroic fashion, walking it off with a 42-yard game-winning field goal.
Astronaut 43 – Tohopekaliga 39
This is a momentum-boosting win for the War Eagles; Astronaut looked good against East River and found a way to win against Tohopekaliga to start the 2026 season. They will have a difficult matchup with New Smyrna next week before their first district game on 9/11 with Merritt Island.
Merritt Island 44 – Cocoa 19
With Cocoa leading 12-7 going into the second quarter, this looked like it could have gone down to the wire, but the Mustangs’ offense was virtually unstoppable as they scored 37 unanswered before a late-game scoop and score by the Tigers. This is a momentous win for Merritt Island as they start their campaign 1-0.
Palm Bay 41 – Nova Lakes 7
The Pirates win big to start their 2026 football season. Although the season will get tougher, that is exactly how Coach Mays and company would want to start it off.
Space Coast 43 – Umatilla 7
Space Coast got back to their winning ways after dropping their season opener against Satellite. The Scorpions still have a championship pedigree and will be ready to get on a hot streak.
Holy Trinity 20 – Bayside 7
With bad weather conditions, the game was not a clean game, but Holy Trinity found a way to win. The Tigers draw Titusville next week which will be a difficult game.
Cocoa Beach 43 – Discovery 0
Cocoa Beach starts out 2-0 with 43 points scored in back-to-back weeks. They have now matched their win total from a season ago in the first couple of weeks, which is a great sign going forward.
