BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Heritage earned its first victory of the season Friday night, defeating Viera 28-22 at Hawks Stadium.
Izael Johnson delivered the decisive play, returning a fumble 76 yards for a touchdown with 6:11 remaining in the fourth quarter. Heritage improved to 1-2, while Viera fell to 2-1.
Elsewhere, Merritt Island defeated Ponte Vedra 45-37, Melbourne rolled past Winter Springs 55-14 and Space Coast shut out Celebration 48-0.
Satellite topped Seabreeze 35-2, Cocoa Beach defeated Foundation Academy 28-21 and Merritt Island Christian earned a 48-14 victory over the Florida School for the Deaf & Blind.
Cocoa suffered a narrow 14-13 loss to Newberry, while Rockledge fell to Fort Pierce Central 35-0. Eau Gallie, Melbourne Central Catholic, Titusville and Bayside also came up short in their respective matchups.
