Merritt Island remains only undefeated FHSAA team in Brevard

District play kicked off for many Brevard County teams last week, but instead of the tightly contested matchups typically expected, the scoreboard showed lopsided results.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – District play kicked off for many Brevard County teams last week, but instead of the tightly contested matchups typically expected, the scoreboard showed lopsided results.

*Rankings are based on a team’s performance, strength of schedule, and record

No. 1 – Merritt Island Mustangs (4-0)

Merritt Island could not have played a more complete game as they hosted Astronaut last Friday. Kevin Verpaele commanded the offense as they picked up chunk play one after another.

Next game: Friday, September 18 vs Bishop Kenny

No. 2 – Eau Gallie Commodores (2-2)

Eau Gallie got back on track this past week beating Rockledge 47-0. Without X’Zavier Corbin expect some different faces to make big plays especially in the pass game.

Next game: Friday, September 18 vs Cocoa

No. 3 – Titusville Terriers (3-1)

Titusville’s district opener against Palm Bay was over in the first two quarters. Huge win for Titusville as they cruised 46-6.

Next game: Friday, September 18 @ Harmony

No. 4 – Melbourne Bulldogs (2-2)

Melbourne started their district play on the road at Oviedo. Less than ideal environment to kick off district play, and they took a tough loss.

Next game: Friday, September 18 vs Palm Bay

No. 5 – Viera Hawks (3-1)

Viera’s district opener was postponed to Monday night, and they traveled back over to Orlando to play Lyman. Winning big is a great way to start district play.

Next game: Friday, September 25 @ Catholic Memorial

No. 6 – Melbourne Central Catholic (2-1)

The Hustlers’ had the week off and it comes at a perfect time for them as well. Needing to get the squad back healthy, they will be ready for district play Friday.

Next game: Friday, September 18 @ Father Lopez

No. 7 – Satellite Scorpions (5-0)

With the way that Satellite is playing, I want to give them even more respect, but playing in the SSAA opposed to FHSAA is the reason for that. However, the Scorpions are taking care of business and proving to be a force.

Next game: Friday, September 18 @ Atlantic

No. 8 – Heritage Panthers (2-2)

After starting 0-2, it was pretty clear the Panthers were in desperate need of a win. After beating Viera, the Panthers destroy Legacy, and now head into district play with a lot of confidence.

Next game: Friday, September 18 vs Westwood

OTHER GAMES AROUND THE COUNTY

*Spruce Creek 10 – Rockledge 3

Make-up game from a couple of weeks ago; the Raiders took the Hawks to the wire. Raiders’ costly turnover in overtime ended this one.
