BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – Day 1 of Space Coast CityFest is in the books after the event on Saturday drew in thousands of people at Space Coast Daily Park in Viera that included guests from all over the world for a free event.
Pastor Andrew Palau was thrilled with the amount of people that attended the event on Saturday, but he is expecting an even larger crowd on Sunday.
“We are so happy. The weather was a miracle. We were expecting storms, but it parted like the Red Sea when it came near us so we could not possibly be happier,” said Palau.
Andrew Palau also discussed the recent news of his dad, Luis Palau, entering hospice care at home as he battles lung cancer and the decision he made with his dad about Andrew attending Space Coast CityFest this weekend.
On one hand, it was a hard decision to leave Dad in his current state. On the other hand, it was the easiest decision in the world. It was exactly what Dad wanted. I know for a fact. He told me:
“Go, Andrew,” he said. “We’ve said all we need to say. No regrets. Pure joy. Now don’t let me get in the way of you preaching the Good News!”
It’s for this very reason we share the Good News . . . so that everybody would be ready for their moment.
And so we go! But now we need your prayers.
This festival has been in the works for more than 3 years. It is being led by 200 local churches and non-profit organizations. The leadership team is amazing. Kindred spirits. The goal—just like all Palau Festivals—is focused on serving the region and proclaiming the Good News of Jesus. And we’re already seeing God at work!
In addition to the two-day festival at Space Coast Daily Park on Saturday and Sunday (March 6-7, 2021), multiple affinity events and smaller outreaches have been taking place throughout the region. They have included outreaches at local prisons, a youth rally, a gathering for first responders, a luncheon for business and civic leaders, as well as two evangelistic outreach events for women which were led by Wendy. (She was fabulous!)
Hundreds have attended the events and many have already responded to the Gospel invitation. Hallelujah!
As is the case with all of our campaigns, Space Coast CityFest has also included a regionwide service effort known as CityServe, focusing on the most urgent and pressing social needs in the area. And the stories we’re hearing are so encouraging.
God is so clearly working here in Florida. Space Coast CityFest was originally scheduled for March 2020. Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, we decided to postpone the events until now. And it was the right move. Even more churches have come on board since last year. Momentum and excitement have only grown.
And now is the time for harvest!
This is the first live festival we’ve held since the pandemic began.
I feel very thankful. If he (Luis) wasn’t as sure or as confident as he is about his future in eternity, it would be a little more difficult. But with everything we have said tonight, everything we see in the Bible, is to prepare people for that very moment that you would have confidence in where you are going. In 1 John 5, it talks about “I write these things so that you may know you may have eternal life” and that’s what we have been talking about and how that exchange works.”
For more than 24 years Palau has played a key role in the worldwide work of the Luis Palau Association. He has been instrumental in building the LPA model for citywide outreach as an evangelist, director, and key team leader.
Palau has guided campaigns, led massive church relations efforts, trained thousands of believers in friendship evangelism, and proclaimed the Good News of Jesus Christ in person to hundreds of thousands of individuals around the world through evangelistic campaigns like CityFest.
Palau’s festival has brought him and the Palau Association in partnership with thousands of churches in cities throughout Latin America, Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia, the Caribbean, and the United States of America.
His weekly radio broadcasts are heard by millions of people on thousands of radio outlets in dozens of countries.
Palau is also the author of multiple books, including Secret Life of a Fool, a retelling of his personal journey to faith in Christ, and What is Christmas?, a groundbreaking evangelistic book published in China in 2012.
He is also a regular contributor to national publications with articles on issues of faith, and a favorite speaker at conferences and gatherings around the world.
Palau and his wife Wendy have three children, Christopher, Jonathan, and Sadie Anne. They live in Portland, Oregon, close to the world headquarters of the Palau ministry.
