BREVARD COUNTY • PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, FLORIDA – The Air Force Reserve Command’s Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program recently announced they will be once again providing in-person events.
“We had to adjust to the pandemic and ensure the safety of our members so the decision was made to cancel all in-person events in early 2020,” said Tech. Sgt. Tiffany Kallal, 920th Rescue Wing YRRP representative.”
“Deployment missions continued so we improvised and were able to provide virtual events to disperse information to our deploying Airmen and their families.”
YRRP events act as a source of information for military families before, during, and at the end of deployments.
To assist with the transition between service members’ military and civilian roles, the Department of Defense has conducted YRRP events since 2008.
These events offer Reserve and Guard members and their families access to information ranging from health care and education benefits to financial and family services, including workshops and resources for post-deployment re-acclimation.
“The program is a great opportunity for family members to learn about possible deployment issues, where to go for support, and provides a chance to network with other attendees to support one another,” said Kallal.
“Over the course of two and a half days, everyone who attends leaves with a wealth of knowledge they weren’t previously aware of. It’s also a fantastic way to spend time with your loved ones away from home.”
Support services provided at each event include representatives for TriCare, Airmen and Family Readiness, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, legal assistance, Military Family Life Consultants, personal financial consultants, chaplains, and many more.
A deploying 920th RQW Airman is eligible for one pre-deployment event 120 days prior to their departure and two post-deployment events as early as 30 days after the member returns from the deployment and has one year after returning home to attend their two events.
