BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – The 10th Annual Light Up Viera Holiday Parade, presented by the Viera Community Institute, included parade elements never before seen in Brevard County on Saturday, December 3.
Spectators enjoyed ten professional cold-air inflated balloons that ranged in size from 14 to 25 feet in height and had 10-12 handlers, each dressed in matching bibs.
The final balloon was a helium-filled nutcracker that towered above the crowd with its 18 handlers and a professional guide.
The parade route was shorter this year for the balloons, but there is plenty of designated viewing and parking areas.
“This is an exciting year for the parade and the community! Not only are we celebrating a milestone anniversary but we have a spectacular new unique element to introduce to the spectators,” said Laurie Widzgowski, Marketing & Events Coordinator for The Viera Company.
“You won’t want to miss this year’s lineup.”
iHeartRadio announcer Mindy Levy of 99.3 FM returned as the parade’s main emcee with her co-announcer, Wingnut, from 95.1 FM.
The annual pre-parade fireworks display started the holiday parade.
The parade had a few sponsored floats and representatives from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, including their mounted posse, Brevard County Fire Department, walking units from our local sports teams and dance groups, as well as professional entertainers to brighten and amuse attendees with their unique acrobats, synchronized routines, swirling lights and other surprises.
The parade had six marching bands this year, representing Viera High School, Rockledge High School, Satellite High School, Astronaut High School, Merritt Island High School, and Eau Gallie High School.
The Viera Company, parade sponsor and master plan developer for the community of Viera, provided a generous donation to each high school that participated in the parade, with funds going toward their music programs.
Two food truck areas along the new route were Espresso Yourself Mobil Coffee, Cajun Soul Bistro, Space Coast Sliders, 4th Street Fillin Station, Nomads Rolled Ice Cream, 7 Brew Coffee, Mr. D Ice Cream and More, DejaTea Boba and Bites, and more.
There is still time to be a part of the event as a sponsor or volunteer by contacting events@viera.com.
“Events are a key ingredient to creating and fostering a sense of community and place that make a master-planned community more than a collection of buildings,” said Scott Miller, President of the Viera Community Institute.
“The Viera Company and the Viera Community Institute are exceptionally grateful to the staff, volunteers, and sponsors who bring these events to life and demonstrate their care and commitment to Viera through their time and effort.”
